- Civic Engagement Coordinator - Amina Iqbal is the Civic Outreach Coordinator for MMCC. She will work with local communities to improve their relationship with their local elected officials and coordinate workshops and events (see below!) that will make a big impact. - Annual Muslim Capitol Day in Lansing – The Council organizes this annual visit to Michigan’s capitol with bi-partisan sponsorship to elevate community visibility and voice. See pictures from 2012 and 2011 here. The 2013 event is planned for May 28th: stay tuned for more information!
- Voter Registration Drive - Recognizing the need for increased voter registration and voter education during the 2012 election cycle, MMCC hired a civic engagement coordinator to support this effort.
- Candidates Forum: MMCC cosponsored events at Muslim Community of Western Suburbs (Canton Mosque) and the Islamic Association of Greater Detroit (Rochester Hills Mosque), where community members had an opportunity to meet numerous local, county and state representatives running for elected offices.
